300 million. That's the number of new users added by Instagram in the past year, which is more than Snapchat's total user count of 188 million. In fact, all three of Facebook's largest apps added more users in the past year than Snapchat has in total. 


  • Amazon's Twitch is expanding its programming to become a true contender in the video wars. YouTube, feeling the heat, has started to pay top creators to showcase new features like paid memberships and enhanced chat.
  • Adidas is partnering with Twitter to livestream high school football games. "Friday Night Stripes" underlines Twitter's effort to create livestreaming opportunities to better compete with Amazon, Facebook, and YouTube.
  • Facebook acquired Vidpresso to make live video more interactive. Integrating its tools into the platform will make it easier for creators and brands to add on-screen social media polls and comments to their videos.


Dos Toros

This week, Dos Toros released its “Burrito Time” app which, following a push notification, awards free burritos to the first ten users to open it each day. The app stars @pintotheburrito, a mascot that rose to Instagram fame thanks to its humorous, meme-first strategy—a growing trend on the platform.
