After all the hype, the #DeleteFacebook backlash didn't make a dent. Facebook's US unique users on mobile rose 7% year-over-year to 188.6 million in April during the peak of the platform's data breach scandal. Time spent on Facebook by users also went up.


  • Instagram is testing tools to help users track their time and usage. In addition to a new insights tab, the platform is also experimenting with a notification that lets users know that they're all caught up. 
  • Further making moves to reduce non-productive usage of the app, Instagram added a mute button. Instead of unfollowing accounts, users can now choose to remove someone's content from their feeds and Stories.
  • Facebook is testing an influencer search engine for marketers. The new tool would help advertisers connect with creators for sponsored campaigns, letting them select audiences and contact creators to propose deals.
